Please see the infographic below, which includes details on waste and recycling in Sydney. For example, did you know that according to ABS stats, more than two-thirds of Australian adults are concerned about the accumulation and disposal of household waste? It is therefore important that rubbish be disposed of efficiently and in a way that is as environmentally friendly as possible.
Did you know that NSW produces more garbage than any other Australian state? See the breakdown by state graphic below. On average every year each Australian throws out 330 kilograms of paper and 118kg of plastic?
With there being so much rubbish produced in Sydney, you can probably imagine how tough our job is sometimes, not just physically, it almost hurts to see how much waste goes on. Fortunately, we have come to find that there are a lot of great recycling centres out there that can deal with junk responsibly. At Same-Day Rubbish Removal we pride ourselves on the fact that we always try to have your items disposed of in the most responsible way possible, which is usually recycling. We encourage anyone who is thinking of throwing out a lot of items to consider ways in which they could be reused, or recycled themselves. When you see how much stuff ends up in landfill, it’s hard to throw things out!
The ABC's series War on Waste shared some alarming statistcs about the excessive amounts of junk Australians produce. You can check out those stats here.
Despite our team having seen a lot of junk over the years, and knowing that rubbish production is a huge problem, we still learnt a lot from the War on Waste. Our company focuses solely on Sydney hard junk collection. It’s mind boggling to think about how much garbage goes into the curbside bins across Sydney, a much bigger service than we could ever do. What inspired us the most was seeing how when Craig set a challenge to the people living on a particular street to reduce their weekly trash, that people were able to do so, and some hardly had anything to throw away! Imagine if we all tried to minimise our rubbish like these people did – the world’s waste problems could be reduced significantly.
There are a number of ways that you can help to try and reduce the environmental impacts of waste. Even if you hardly use your curbside bin, never litter, don’t use plastic bags, etc. there’s a big thing you can still do. Unfortunately, not everyone is as conscientious as you, so there is still a lot of junk floating around on the streets, in parks, etc. Take some time to pick up some of this rubbish, whether you go on daily walks or jogs already, it may be the right time to get started! You can the make use of the council bin that you pay for. The other big thing you can do is to encourage others to be responsible with their rubbish.
